According to a survey conducted in Japan in 2020, more than half of respondents approved of the government and municipalities providing financial aid for individuals and organizations engaging in art and culture activities amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. Following the business suspension and cancelation of cultural events due to the rising COVID-19 infection cases, the government announced a secondary supplementary budget, of which ** billion Japanese yen were designated as an emergency aid package for artists in the country.
