According to a survey conducted in October 2025, around 34 percent of respondents in South Korea agreed to legalize same-sex marriage. This figure has been steadily increasing until 2023 and dropped in 2025 for the first time in several years. In February 2023, a South Korean court ruled for the first time that same-sex couples can receive national health spousal coverage like different-sex couples. 

Social perceptions of LGBTQ+ 

While about ** percent of respondents from the same survey still disapproved of legalizing same-sex marriage, younger generations showed greater acceptance, contrasting with traditional views. Notably, individuals in their twenties supported same-sex marriage legalization the most, even though this age group showed a regressive trend in 2025. Additionally, a 2025 survey indicated that around ** percent believed that homosexuality is innate, whereas around **** of respondents thought it was aquired, dependent on upbringing and social environment.
