The combined revenue development of all wholesale activities in the Netherlands showed a similar pattern during the years 2017 to 2020. The revenue increased every year, peaking at an index value of 122.3 in the fourth quarter of 2019. Moreover, the division between the quarters shows clear similarities. Typically, the fourth quarter had the highest index value of the year, largely due to holiday shopping. Turnover subsequently dropped to a low in the first quarter, which was the quarter with the lowest retail revenue. In 2020 however, the coronavirus crisis caused the index value to plummet.
