According to a survey of people who filed for bankruptcy in the United States between 2013 and 2016, the most common contributor to bankruptcy was income loss, with **** percent of respondents either very much or somewhat agreeing that losing income contributed to their filing for bankruptcy. This compares to **** percent of respondents who either very much or somewhat agreed that living beyond their means was a contributor to their bankruptcy.
