The figures for bankruptcy in the source are based on the number of declarations of bankruptcy the commercial courts in Belgium received. When necessary extra information from the enterprise register of Statistics Belgium was added.

The source refers to the codes used in the official economic activity groups found in Europe, or the so-called NACE 2008. The codes used in this statistic are: I56, F, G47, G46, H, and G45.

Citation formats

In March 2020, shortly after the start of the coronavirus outbreak in Belgium, roughly *** construction companies went bankrupt. On the other hand, *** companies went bankrupt in the hotel, restaurant, and catering sector. This is slightly less than in the same month one year before. The sector which did see a slight increase in March 2020 was transport, as bankruptcies had grown by nearly *** compared to March 2019. First indicators of how much the coronavirus has affected companies in Belgium are likely to arrive in the upcoming numbers for April 2020.
