The financing of a hospital through the financial resources budget (FRB) comes from the individual distribution among all hospitals of the overall hospital budget. In ****, this overall budget was set at a maximum amount of *** billion euros for general hospitals in Belgium. In 2019, over ** percent of this budget was sourced by hospital service charges, while roughly a quarter of the budget originated from the common service charges.

Both of these sources were linked to the operating costs of hospitals. Indeed, the FRB has three main components: an infrastructure and materials budget, an operating cost budget, and a budget for the regularization of the post-financing of the various parts of the FRB.
