After entering Italy between the end of January and the beginning of February 2020, coronavirus (COVID-19) spread throughout the whole country. The high number of cases registered in Italy has put the national healthcare system under a lot of pressure, especially due to the limited number of intensive care units (ICU). In addition to that, the virus also spread among medical staff. As of July 21, 2021, the number of coronavirus cases recorded among this category of workers in Italy reached 138,129.
At the end of December 2020, Italy started administering the
COVID-19 vaccines. Medical staff across the country were one of the selected recipients for the first doses, so that they could keep working in safety.
