The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season was expected to be slightly more active than normal, with between ** and ** named storms forecast, in comparison to an average of ** recorded between 1991 and 2020. Out of those, or are expected to become hurricanes, with around half reaching major hurricane status (category * or higher). Warmer waters in the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico in the summer contribute to the development of hurricanes and the active hurricane season, which officially spans from June 1 to November 30.
