COVID-19: Iran's situation in comparison to the world

During the early phase of pandemic, Iran was among the countries most affected by the coronavirus worldwide. The death rate of COVID-19, or the number of known deaths divided by the number of confirmed cases, in Iran was over 7.79 percent making it the second highest death rate worldwide after Italy in the spring of 2020. However, it is important to note that the death rate is not the same as the mortality rate (which reflects the number of deaths based on an at-risk population).

COVID-19: background information
