Since the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Italy started in February 2020, the number of cases has increased daily. However, the vast majority of people who contracted the virus have recovered. As of January 8, 2025, the number of individuals who recovered from coronavirus in Italy reached over 26.5 million. Conversely, the number of deaths also kept increasing, reaching over 198.6 thousand. When looking at the regional level, the region with the highest number of recoveries was Lombardy. The region, however, registered the highest number of coronavirus cases in the country.
