Therefore, it comes as no surprise that according to the findings of a survey conducted in 2024, the majority of Hungarians used their smartphones to read news on the internet. When it comes to the most popular online news brand in the country, in 2026, telex.hu ranked first, reaching approximately ** percent of internet users on a weekly basis.

Willingness to pay for online news

Even though most Hungarians informed themselves from news websites, only a few were willing to pay for this service. As the findings of a survey pointed it out, ** percent of Hungarians would pay to access news on the internet. In 2020, Hungarians’ most common reason for refusing to pay for online news was that they could access the same information free of charge from other sources, while every fifth person claimed that they could not afford paying for news.
