Cannabis is an illegal drug in Germany, but since March 2017 it maybe be distributed in pharmacies if prescribed. Additionally, an application for reimbursement may be filed with an insurance company. Cannabis is also used as a painkiller in the form of drops, a spray or as flowers.

The AOK Association approved ** percent of applications for reimbursing medical cannabis use in Germany during the specified time period. Cannabis may be prescribed and handed out in German pharmacies since March 2017.
