In 2019, 53 percent of respondents in Russia stated that physical appearance was a triggering factor for an abusive behavior towards them on the internet. Political views and sexual orientation were other common drivers of online threats. In the same year, more than a quarter of Russians named sexual orientation one of the possible motives for cyber bullying.
