The United States imported around nine billion U.S. dollars worth of coffee in 2024, making it the leading importer of coffee worldwide that year. Germany followed in second place, importing around 5.6 billion U.S. dollars worth of coffee. As the leading global coffee importer, the United States imported more than 1.5 billion U.S. dollars worth of Colombian coffee in 2023.

Coffee market worldwide

The bulk of the world’s coffee gets produced in South America, with the region contributing the highest share of coffee production worldwide. Particularly reputable globally are Brazilian and Colombian coffee. With around 66 million 60-kilogram bags of coffee produced annually, Brazil was the largest coffee-producing nation in the world in 2024/25. Coffee is among the most lucrative industries in Brazil. 

Coffee consumption worldwide

Globally, coffee consumption increased in the last decade, with the equivalent of 177 million 60kg bags of coffee consumed around the world in 2023/24. Americans consumed on average 1.87 cups of coffee per day in 2020, with around 1.28 cups of their daily coffee intake consumed at home, versus only an average of 0.2 cups consumed at work or in eating places.
