According to a survey conducted among pedelec owners in Japan in ***, only **** percent of respondents had experienced troubles with their pedal-assist electric bicycles. A blowout of the rear wheel was the most common problem.
Pedelecs refer to bicycles using an electric power assisted system to support the pedaling motion of the cyclist, while models with a built-on self-propulsion systems are considered to be mopeds in Japan.
