* The index is calculated as the difference between positive and negative answers. In Russia, In 2021, 41 percent of respondents in Russia stated they were happy, and 23 percent stated they were unhappy. Worldwide, 56 percent reported being happy and 13 percent unhappy.

Survey characteristics were provided for the latest survey conducted in 44 countries worldwide among 41,560 respondents by telephone, face-to-face, or online.
The study was not conducted in 2018.
