At the end of fiscal year 2019, the return on invested capital of UltraTech Cement was about seven percent. This was estimated to increase to nearly ten percent by fiscal year 2021. In 2018, the cement production capacity of India stood close to *** million metric tons. The increase in cement demand in fiscal year 2019 was about ** percent, which was the highest growth since 2010.
The high demand came from the infrastructure sector due to government's focus on metro, roads, airport and irrigation projects. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for low-cost house construction, demand from rural areas was also significant.
