In 2019, ** percent of Italian respondents thought that official documents should not have a third gender option. More specifically, interviewees were asked if documents such as passports and birth certificates were supposed to have another option to indicate gender beside male and female for those who identified themselves neither as males nor as females.
A survey conducted in 2019 shows that respondents in Italy believed that discrimination related to the sexual orientation was one of the most widespread type of discrimination in the country.
