* In 2021, the methodology for calculating the unemployment rate has been changed from registered to surveyed unemployment. Registered unemployment only included those persons who participated in unemployment insurance, lost their jobs, and applied for unemployment benefits. In contrast, surveyed unemployment is based on monthly representative surveys among the total urban labor force. These surveys tend to provide a more accurate picture of the real size of existing unemployment.
