According to a survey conducted by on predictions for global issues in 2020, ** percent of Malaysians thought it likely that there would be large-scale public unrest to protests against the way the country is run in that year.
This is not surprising, as Malaysia experienced several large-scale protests in 2018 against the then-prime minister Najib Razak. The current prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, won the 2019 election on the promise, amongst other issues, to hand over power to popular opposition figure Anwar Ibrahim in 2020. Should the public be dissatisfied with the way the government is run, a fresh wave of protests is a possibility.
