The source provides the following information: "A hospital stay is defined as an unbroken period of time that a patient spends as an inpatient or day-case. Stays are counted at the point of discharge, when all diagnostic information regarding the stay is fully available. Therefore a 'stay' and a 'discharge' are equivalent in this report."
The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) ranking enables the classification of the Scottish population into ten segments (deciles). Each decile comprises an equal number of individuals, with those residing in decile 1 inhabiting the most deprived regions of Scotland, while those in decile 10 reside in the least deprived areas of the country.Â
