*The United Kingdom left the European Union (EU) on January 31, 2020 (Brexit). According to the source, data referring to the European Union from February 1, 2020 onward pertains to the EU-27 without the United Kingdom.
From 2017 onward, the data refers to the current member states of the EU and the Eurozone. The data from previous years still refers to the EU-28. Data from countries that were not yet members at an earlier point in time are included in the total values for the respective years. At the same time, Brexit marks the first instance in the history of the European Union (EU) where data from a country that was previously a member is excluded from the total values of the respective years.
