Gone are the days when the only devices you could connect to the internet were smartphones and computers. Nowadays, a lot of things are smartening up as the idea of an intelligent home becomes reality. Devices like smart speakers, smart TVs, and streaming sticks can be seen at a regular occurrence as the global smart home market is forecast to increase up to US$** billion by 2022.
A popular example of connected home devices would be smart microwaves, designed to make kitchen work more convenient. Connected to your household’s Wi-Fi, they can do several chores including microwaving, cooking and grilling. But, how much did the American consumers normally spent on a one-time purchase of their connected microwave?
Almost one fourth among U.S. consumers – all aged 18 to 59 – who own a smart microwave spent up to US$*** on their purchase. Another **% of the respondents spent up to US$100 on the device and nearly one in every 10 of the respondents spent in excess of US$*** on this purchase.
Concerns about smart appliances
Even though United States is a booming market for connected home devices, smart appliances have not reached overall adoption in the U.S. yet. One reason for this might be the various concerns consumers stated regarding smart devices, like overpriced products or the danger of cyberattacks.
