According to its gross revenue in 2019, rum is one of the most popular spirits in the U.S. The distilled alcoholic beverage is consumed by all age groups among the U.S. residential online population and in particular favored by 30 to 49 year old consumers. The market comprises different variations of the sugar cane-based spirit, including light rum and dark rum. Regarding sales volumes, close to ** million 9-liter cases of rum were sold in the U.S. as of 2018.

Frequency of rum consumption
Concerning the frequency of consuming rum among U.S. respondents of 21 years and older, slightly more than one tenth consume it once per week, while **% enjoy the drink less often than once a month. Weekends are preferred for rum consumption which might have something to do with the fact that, during this time of the week, a lot of people can sit back and enjoy having an alcoholic beverage or two without worrying about getting up early the next morning.
