After reaching a peak in 2013, global beer production as measured in hectoliters has been declining slightly. Brewery output was down on all continents except Africa in 2025, The state of the beer market has been described due to changing consumer preferences, health consciousness and strained household budgets.
Declines were driven by lagging production in Europe and other developed nations. Major Latin American beer markets were still growing, figures from the same report showed, leading to a slight increase in output in the subregion of South America over the past two years.
While the world's largest beer market, China, is also in decline, Southeast Asian markets have upped production, for example in Vietnam – which has a big draft beer culture and saw .
Overall, developing countries which have younger populations were more likely to see their beer production rise. The outlier among developed countries is the United Kingdom, where production was up.
