Michael Bloomberg’s announcement on Sunday that he would run for the Democratic nomination for president didn’t come as much of a surprise. That makes the and the amount of money their campaigns have so far collected no less staggering.
Bloomberg, who with a fortune of more than $53 billion is one of the , said he would not accept any donations to his campaign – and one can see why. The entire 2020 field has so far only , an amount that might seem like petty cash to the former mayor of New York City.
As far as personal fortunes go – which might or might not be put towards the financing of campaigns – the 2020 field also does not have much on Bloomberg. All major candidates have a combined net worth of approximately $5 billion. Donald Trump’s estimated fortune of $3.1 billion making up more than 60 percent of that.
