Chinese COVID-19 vaccines - statistics & facts
The COVID-19 pandemic poses a critical challenge to people鈥檚 well-being worldwide. As a powerful weapon to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives, vaccination is often seen as a vital solution to mitigate the burdens posed by COVID-19 and potentially end the pandemic for good. As the first country impacted by the pandemic, China was one of the pioneers in the virological research on SARS-CoV-2. Chinese pharmaceutical enterprises were also among the first companies that successfully developed effective vaccines against the disease. Thanks to the country鈥檚 substantial production capacity, Chinese COVID-19 vaccines successfully fulfilled the needs of the domestic market, contributing to the country鈥檚鈥massive vaccination campaign. They were also widely adopted globally, notably in lower and middle-income countries. The strong global demands greatly improved the performance of China鈥檚 major vaccine manufacturers, with Sinovac reporting an increase of over 22,000 percent in鈥痠ts annual net income鈥痓etween 2019 and 2021.
