Online food delivery worldwide – statistics & facts
The online food delivery sector has experienced unprecedented growth since the pandemic began. As lockdowns and quarantine regulations forced people to stay at home, the demand for grocery and meal delivery increased dramatically. The industry saw its global revenues more than double compared with pre-pandemic levels in both the grocery and meal delivery segments, approaching 1.4 trillion U.S. dollars in 2025.Â
A trillion-dollar market shaped by two heavyweights
China and the United States are the two leading online food delivery markets, together accounting for the vast majority of global revenue in 2025. India, the United Kingdom, and Japan round out the top five, though each generates only a fraction of what the two leaders do. Asia's dominance extends to users as well: of the more than three billion people worldwide who use online food delivery services, roughly two-thirds are in Asia. The grocery delivery segment has been the main growth engine, now contributing more revenue than meal delivery.
