Record companies are companies associated with the sale of music and video clips, and one of the most important links in the distribution of audio content to the public. These companies are responsible for the production, marketing, distribution and promotion of sound recordings and videos, but they are also on the lookout for new talent. A large share of the sector is owned by the three record companies known as 'The Big Three', namely Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group and Sony Music Entertainment. The rest of the market is made up of smaller independent labels, while some artists choose to self-produce in order to maintain a certain degree of control over their content.
