The geographical location, along with the vast national landscape, provides Russia with great potential for the development of all means of transportation. The investment volume in inland transport infrastructure in the country has fluctuated over the past decade, measuring at roughly 12.4 billion euros in 2020. In terms of freight transport, the road sector carried the largest volume, accounting for over 1.1 billion metric tons of transported goods in the first quarter of 2022 alone. However, when looking at the year-over-year freight turnover growth, airways, along with pipeline and inland waterways, led the ranking.
