In-between the Caribbean Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, Haiti is located in the western third of the island of Hispaniola. Once famous as a travel destination due to its landscapes, Haiti showed promise as a country with a bright cultural heritage and historical significance, becoming the first independent Black republic. Nevertheless, with its turbulent history and ongoing crises, the country faces persistent challenges that threaten its stability and economic future, such as the high level of poverty, violence, and vulnerability to natural disasters.
