Fertilizer industry in the UK - statistics & facts
The global demand for agricultural fertilizers has experienced a consistent, albeit modest, increase over the past decade. In 2024, the total global demand reached 195.4 million metric tons and is projected to exceed 205.8 million metric tons by 2027. In the United Kingdom, the consumption of chemical fertilizers remained relatively stable between 2010 and 2021, with approximately 1.45 million metric tons used in 2021. However, in 2022, this consumption declined to 1.17 million metric tons. Nitrogen remains the predominant nutrient, with around 862 thousand metric tons consumed, while fertilizers containing phosphorus and potassium accounted for 110 thousand and 197 thousand metric tons, respectively.
