Foster care and adoption in the United States - statistics & facts
Fewer Americans are expanding their families through adoption, as prospective parents are increasingly hindered by high costs, extended waiting periods, and changing regulations. Although adopting from the public foster care system is affordable and often subsidized, families face strict requirements and limited availability. Alternatively, Americans may decide to work with private agencies, across the United States and abroad, in hopes of speeding up the adoption process for a higher price. While intercountry adoptions can be costly and time-consuming, adopting a child born in another country is considered a more predictable path – albeit a controversial one.
