National parks in South Korea - statistics & facts
South Korea currently has 23 national parks, all of which are home to vast and biodiverse ecosystems which make the region unique. Free entry into these parks, particularly for those that contain cultural heritage temples, was allowed from 2023, when the cultural heritage viewing fee was abolished. These parks are home to over 60,000 species of animals and plants as well as several endangered species. Every year, this nature attracts millions of visitors to South Korea's national parks. However, whether future generations will have the same opportunity to experience these parks and their monuments is not certain. Climate change impacts have had devastating consequences for natural reserves all over the world, and Korea is no exception.
