Employment in Malaysia - statistics & facts
After a tumultuous period marked by the COVID-19 pandemic and political unrest from 2020 to 2022, Malaysia has bounced back with a stronger economy and relatively stable politics. This had an impact on employment in Malaysia, with the number of available jobs reaching more than nine million in 2024, the highest in a decade. The unemployment rate has also decreased to around 3.9 percent in 2023, from a record high of 4.64 percent in 2021. Nevertheless, concerns over higher cost of living because of the economic slowdown, fair wages, and brain drain remain as issues that need to be addressed.
