Offshore energy in South Korea - statistics & facts
South Korea has a unique advantage in offshore energy due to its geographical conditions. Surrounded by water on three sides, its coasts are ideal for offshore projects. With over 90 percent of its energy supply coming from overseas, the country desires energy security and is looking to the open sea for an opportunity. However, drilling for petroleum and natural gas brings concerns of oil spills and continued fossil fuel dependency. At the same time, offshore wind farms require port space, and their construction is often lengthy and difficult. While both methods need considerable initial investments, they offer new sources of energy that will always be high in demand.
