Public opinion on climate change in the EU - statistics & facts
The European Union population is aware of climate change, but not all consider it a major concern. In a survey carried out in all EU member states in 2024, only a third of respondents mentioned climate change as one of the top three main challenges their country faces. Despite this outcome – which is related to other big issues Europeans are troubled by, such as the economy and national security – the effects of climate change are still an important issue in EU society. More extreme weather events are hitting the region hard every year, affecting the lives of millions and impacting their sentiment towards a changing climate and the ways to fight against it.
