After an exceptional year in 2023, 2024 has proven more lukewarm for Universal Pictures as box office revenues decreased for the first time since the pandemic. However, the studio's place as a major box office driving force is still secure. Even though Disney grossed the highest share in the domestic market in 2024, Universal鈥檚 box office share amounted to near 20 percent for the third year running. On a global scale, the studio was also crowned second at the international box office. On top of that, Universal productions received acclaim from critics, resulting in the studio being awarded a total of two Academy Awards at the 2025鈥檚 edition of the ceremony, the highest among all major movie studios that year.
