For many Malaysians who live in big cities like Kuala Lumpur, going home to a fully automated lighting or air-conditioning system that can be operated by one’s voice or a smartphone app is no longer a thing of the past. With Internet of Things (IoT) technology, in which sensors and software are connected with devices over the internet, having a smart home is not only a luxury but a necessity for more than 11 percent of the population in Malaysia. The IoT is a growing industry, and the IoT industry in Malaysia is no exception. The revenue of the IoT market in the country was estimated to reach around 2.5 billion U.S. dollars in 2024. With Malaysians more connected to the internet than ever, especially with the availability of 5G technology from major network providers, the IoT market in the country is poised to expand further.
