The City of Los Angeles, often referred to simply as L.A., is the largest city in the state of California and a part of the second most populous metropolitan area in the United States, following only New York. Located on the Pacific coast of southern California, Los Angeles is well known for having a pleasant climate enabling extensive outdoor leisure and recreational activity. Additionally, the city is home to the district of Hollywood, which has been famously labelled as the movie capital of the United States. Boasting a population of almost 13 million people as of 2024, L.A. has also been recognized as a city with remarkable racial and ethnic diversity, reflecting California鈥檚 vast immigrant population as well as the city鈥檚 history of originating under Spanish rule where people of European ancestry were in the minority.
