This report presents facts and figures about the health of those experiencing homelessness in the United States. Homelessness increases the risk of poor physical and mental health outcomes, and often makes it more difficult to access health care. Furthermore, those already suffering from physical and mental health conditions, as well as substance abuse disorder, are at increased risk of becoming homeless, with homelessness often then exacerbating these health conditions. This report specifically takes a look at the health of the homeless populations in California, New York, and Washington, the states with some of the highest numbers of homeless people in the United States. Included in the report are figures on common physical and mental health conditions among those experiencing homelessness in these states, as well as data on deaths among this population.
