Statistics report on emissions from electricity generation in the United States

The electric power industry has historically been the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. However, a shift away from coal-fired power and the increased use of renewable energy sources and natural gas has seen the sector slash its emissions in recent decades. But while the sector is now the second-largest emitter in the country, it remains a significant climate polluter.

This report covers emissions produced by electricity generation in the United States. It includes emissions data on a global, national, and state level, as well as those produced by the biggest polluters within the U.S. electric power sector. The report also includes power sector emissions projections for the coming decades, as well as a section on power-related emissions of harmful air pollutants.
