The wireless subscriber base of Vodafone Idea Limited across India amounted to approximately * million subscribers as of December 2024. There was a continuous decrease in the subscriber base around the time of the merger. 

Marriage of equals

In August 2018, the Vodafone Group and Aditya Birla Group’s Idea Cellular Limited forged a partnership to become the country’s leading telecom service provider. It was termed the marriage of equals because of the agreement to merge operations with an equal swap ratio. The two companies were renamed V! or VI and had joint control over it. After the merger, it was supposed to have a large customer market share as well as a large revenue market share. This merger was to overcome the competition it faced from Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio.

Services offered

The company provided voice and data service across different platforms like **, **, and ** over its large spectrum portfolio. There was equity infusion from both the partners, intending to have a stronghold on various digital services such as Internet of Things, high speed and secured leased lines, digital wallets, MIMO, and cloud services. Vodafone also provided wireline services and held a small market share in that area.
