The primary reason for opening a new investment account, among both new investors and experienced entrants in the United States, during 2020 was to invest for retirement. Among new investors, ** percent stated this to be the primary reason, while the share was slightly lower, at ** percent, among experienced entrants. A large share of new investors also stated that being able to start with small amounts was a primary reason. Dips in the market, and investing for non-retirement were other common reasons among experienced entrants.
