The findings in Canada mirror similar studies in the United States. According to a 2018 survey, younger adults in the United States are both more familiar with and more frequent users of ridesharing services like Uber. Wealth also seems to have an impact, with higher income groups in both Canada and the United States being more open towards ridesharing.

Ridesharing versus taxis

The general benefit of ridesharing is that if offers a service similar to taxis at a cheaper price. Through an online platform, ridesharing services match customers with drivers of a private vehicle. This means that payment for the ride is technically made to the driver, with the ride sharing company receiving a portion from the driver as a fee. Despite this controversy, and regardless age, a majority of Canadian agree that taxi cab companies should improve to compete with Uber.
