After falling sharply in 1992, registrations of cars climbed approximately **** million cars in 1999. Registrations stayed at this level until the financial crisis of 2008 began a decline in car registrations which did not end until 2014, picking up again in the past four years. In 2018, there were approximately **** million new car registrations.
