Since 2014, primary energy production from renewable municipal waste has continuously increased in the United Kingdom, peaking at 1,053 metric kilotons of oil equivalent in 2018. Between 2014 and 2018, figures more than doubled, with an increase of roughly 531 metric kilotons of oil equivalent.
In 2018, total primary energy production from renewable municipal waste in the EU-28 amounted to 9,993 metric kilotons of oil equivalent. UK's energy production accounted with roughly 10.5 percent from the total EU-28 energy production from municipal waste.
