This statistic shows the number of visits to emergency departments and urgent care centers in Texas in 2012 and 2015, by type. It includes only visits of patients insured by Blue Cross & Blue Shield Texas (BCBSTX). Visits to freestanding emergency departments had the highest increase from nearly 55 thousand in 2012 to some 184 thousand in 2015. Texas has the highest concentration of freestanding EDs in the United States.
