In September 2022, Spotify saw approximately 30 thousand downloads from iPhone users in the Netherlands. Qmusic was the second most downloaded music app for iPhone users in the country, with 16 thousand downloads. Grand Prix Radio ranked third, with approximately 15.5 thousand downloads in the examined period.
Youtube Music: the “new” kid on the block?
YouTube Music, which launched in the Netherlands in August 2018, is YouTube’s streaming service dedicated to music. In January 2022, the
YouTube Music app saw approximately 19 thousand downloads from the Google Play Store, and around 12 thousand downloads from the Apple App Store. This is probably because of the familiarity with the YouTube brand, as 10 million users in the Netherlands are estimated to
engage with the YouTube app on a monthly basis as of September 2020.
Don’t stop the (online) music
Music streaming has become more popular in the Netherlands: in 2020, streaming services made 185.6 million euros,
up by 15.5 from the previous year. Spotify was among the leading online music platforms with the
highest reach in the country, with 34 percent of the internet users in the country using the service.
