In 2018, The Hershey's Company, which specializes in chocolate and cocoa products, had a market share of over 40 percent in the U.S. chocolate segment, making it the company’s main market. Hershey’s also had a U.S. gum market share of about 10 percent in the same year.
Hershey’s and chewing gum in the United States
In addition to
branded chocolate products, such as Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Kit Kat Wafer Bars, Hershey’s is responsible for chewing gum brands, such as Bubba Yum and Ice Breakers Ice Cubes.
Hershey’s owned approximately 10 percent of the American gum market in 2018, putting them in third place, behind confectionery companies Mars and Mondelez. That year, Mars owned over half the U.S. gum market, while Mondelez accounted for a share of roughly 20 percent.
Double Mint, which is a brand of peppermint-flavored chewing gum created by the Wrigley Company, was the
leading brand of regular gum in the United States in 2019. Double Mint generated 100 million U.S. dollars’ worth of sales that year. Some other major gum brands that year included Juicy Fruit, Dubble Bubble, and Hubba Bubba Bubble Tape.
